NASCAR Postponed Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

The NASCAR Cup series has one of the best fan engagement and interaction of any pro sport out there. However, as concern grows over COVID - 19, more and more events getting canceled. This pandemic has brought such an eerie unpredictability in how things are going to play it, and that goes for racing events too.

In March 2020, it was announced that the NASCAR race weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway would be postponed due to the growing spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, NASCAR issued new operational guidelines for race weekends.

Among them were:

Having driver and track services meetings only in open-air spaces
Keeping driver appearances in outdoor settings
Ensuring drivers to pre-sign autographed items
Using a 6-foot buffer around the starting grid and driver introduction stage
The NASCAR Euro Series has also been rescheduled. The event was previously scheduled for April 25-26 and has been moved to October 31-November 1, 2020.

The revised NASCAR schedule for 2020
As of now, a total of eight Cup Series races have been postponed. However, NASCAR states that it still intends to hold all 36 Cup Series races in 2020. But being that we are in unprecedented times, changes can still happen. For now, here’s what we know about the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series schedule as it stands.

It’s important to note that NASCAR races haven’t been cancelled, yet. But as other sports leagues and organizations are battling the coronavirus pandemic effects, that could quickly change.

Postponed NASCAR races
Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (March 15)
Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway (March 22)
O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (March 29)
Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway (April 5)
Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway (April 19)
Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway (April 26)
Cup Series Race at Dover International Speedway (May 3)
Cup Series Race at Martinsville Speedway (May 9)
NASCAR has some options with the eight races currently postponed. There are two open weekends (July 26 and August 2), so the postponed races could be rescheduled then. They also could be scheduled in the middle of any given week. However, the Homestead, Texas and Dover races, in particular, would present logistics/travel issues for teams.

From NASCAR’s statement: “We intend to hold all 36 races this seasonPsychology Articles, with future rescheduling soon to be determined as we continue to monitor this situation closely with public health officials and medical experts. What is important now transcends the world of sports and our focus is on everyone’s safety and well-being as we navigate this challenging time together.”
